The Five Fam
Because the ever wary and observant mom can see me through the glass, I try not to intrude and do most of my close-up observations while she is away. So, here I am with my nose about 6 inches away from the sleeping babies in the top photo when suddenly they open their mouths as both parents flew in together. I was so startled, I almost fell off the ladder. And once they saw me grasping for the windowsill, they were so taken aback they almost fell out of the nest. Then we all took a moment to just STARE at each other before going on our way.
Today's thoughtful quote comes from a fellow artist/St.Croix-nicity blogger, Bonnie Luria who pointed out that this series of photos is "a microcosm of the wonder that is life and motherhood. It’s almost a familial loss when they take off."
Yes, it certainly feels that way to me. My youngest son often referred to us as "the five fambiwy" when he was young.

I love your series, I especially adore the picture of all 3 babies with their beaks open. You're going to fall off your ladder yet! Thanks for risking a broken leg to provide us with the "family pics".
This is SO cool! I'm so glad you're documenting this so we can all experience it vicariously.
Awwww. These are just amazing shots, Faye. Taking your life in your hands on that ladder! :-) Absolutely precious family. We have a pair of robins who are dive-bombing our front windows, and leave huge messes each day. I'm guessing that they're guarding a nest nearby, but haven't spotted it yet. I'm worried they're going to hurt themselves on the window.
Love the tufts on the babies.
Thanks for looking, everyone. I'm not afraid of falling off the ladder as much as I hate to make them feel unsafe in their home when they look up and see me being a big klutz.
And Liz, try putting a rubber snake on your window sill. I am told it doesn't always work, but it has been the perfect solution for my house.
Faye
Look at those mouths!! Reminds me of my always hungry teenage boys - ha! The way you told the story of you and the mama bird startling each other reflects perfectly in the expression on her face in the last photo.
Just wonderful...
The way the adult is peering at you.. and your desciption... I can just see you all staring at each other.
Your photos are spectacular!
Love Bonnie's quote too!! Doesn't she have a way with words..... and paint too?
