Diana and Friend

(310) Diana and friend
This sculpture of Diana, goddess of the hunt, is the latest challenge from Karin Jurick's DSFDF. Karin suggested that drawing be the focus for this one, and I can see that I elongated the figure a bit, making her taller than the statue, but it was quite an enjoyable exercise just the same. “It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past"...George Steiner

Wonderful job on an extremely difficult assignment! Love the warm moments on the dog. I also like the way you elongated her form just a teensy tad. She was too squat and a bit masculine in my opinion. Your's is a Beautiful Babe!

Your interpretation of the latest challenge is lovely! The subtle shift of color works very well. Love the spots of color on the dog as well.

I opted out of this challenge because the subject material seemed so difficult. You, on the other hand, nailed it! Wow. Simply amazing!

Lovely work, Faye! The mannerist approach makes her look very elegant! I love the subtle warms and gorgeous reflected light.

This is beautiful! You've really captured the "marbleness" (as in, "the quality of marble;" I couldn't think of a better word!) of the sculpture.

Very nicely done and ditto everything Gwen said. (I'm too chicken to try this one!)

Really like how you gave such a dynamic energy to such a static subject! You can feel her about to move! Wonderful job with the shadows!
