Winter White

(8x10) oil on canvas
I love poinsettias, especially the ivory ones. My southern neighbors have the advantage of growing them in their own flower gardens. Unfortunately, some folks feel the need to "dress them up" at Christmas by adding glitter or dying them different colors (yikes!); but aren't they most lovely just as nature made them?

in harvest teach,
in winter enjoy"...William Blake

Ummm... You mean poinsettas only come in white and people dye them? I never knew that. I do like poinsettas. This a wonderful painting. Lucky neighbors to have them growing in their own garden.

Oh no, sorry, Paz! They do come in lots of lovely colors like red, pink, and some striped varieties! But locally, some florists put dye in the water and color them to match sports team colors (like dark blue). Why? I have no idea, but weird colors and glitter are just not my thing.

Ahhh! Never knew they dyed them to match sports team colors. Ugh! Thankfully, I've never seen the glittered ones, either. Double Ugh! Both sound just wrong.

Most often things are at their best the way they were created!!
You did a beautiful job of capturing their beauty.

This is beautiful! It would make a nice Christmas card, too. :)

I so hate those dyed flower bouquets. Neon colors. Just wrong.
