Like the previous post, I painted a value study before moving on to the color study. To test how values will match, spots of the color can be placed directly on top of the monochromatic study, as shown above. Great way to study. I'm loving the monochromatic study with the spots of color. A very rich looking painting.
Both of these sets of figure value studies are just great! I love the idea of dotting the value study with the colors to be used on the color version to make sure the values match! It's good to know I'm not the only one that gets caught up in these... And, as always, your quotes are great.

Funny, I do value sketches in pencil before I start a painting, but never thought to compare my colors to the values in the study. -doh-What a great concept!

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate you taking the time to look. And yes, Tracy, they are the same size. I try to put studies like these up in the studio to remind me to think about, and plan values in paintings when I don't start with the monochrome study.
